Aesthetic
facial surgery may restore a younger attractiveness for those who have
become dissatisfied with changes caused by the onset of aging. Following
successful treatments, a youthful appearance may be maintained with
periodic touch-up care.
Even with
successful dieting, many individuals still desire additional improvements
in areas such as the tummy, buttocks and thighs, all of which may be
provided through advanced plastic surgery.
Skin surface
imperfections can be addressed by a number of techniques to correct
blemishes, birthmarks, scars, or sun-related conditions.
The self-esteem
of children may be significantly improved with the surgical correction
of undesirable facial, nose and ear appearances, thus allowing for more
normal progression in school and social development.
Dr. Fetter
is a leading specialist in hand surgery. He performs emergency plastic
surgery for traumatic injuries, as well as surgery to correct work-related
injuries and disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
Procedures
performed by Dr. Fetter include:
Facelift
(rhytidectomy).
Skin and underlying tissue is lifted and repositioned and excess skin
and fat are removed...resulting in a more youthful, vibrant appearance.
Eyelid
Surgery (blepharoplasty).
Removes fat, excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids
to correct drooping lids and puffy bags below the eyes.
Collagen
Replacement.
Collagen is injected under the skin, smoothing wrinkles and lines.
Botox
(botulinum toxin).
Botox is injected into specific muscles. This FDA-approved procedure
smoothes wrinkles by paralyzing muscles.
Facial
Implants.
Also called contouring, this procedure changes the basic structure of
the face. Using carefully styled implants, the surgery can create a
more balanced look among facial features.
Forehead
Lift.
Muscles and skin are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise
the upper eyelids and minimize frown lines, resulting in a more alert,
rested, and youthful appearance.
Autogenous
Fat Infiltration.
Minimizes laugh lines, forehead wrinkles, and enhances lips. Fat cells
are extracted from areas of the body and then re-injected beneath the
facial skin.
Breast
Enlargement (augmentation).
Enhances the size and shape of breasts.
Endoscopic
Breast Enlargement.
Breast enlargement is also available utilizing a small-incision endoscopic
system.
Breast
Lift (mastopexy).
Raises and recontours sagging breasts.
Breast
Reconstruction.
A technique utilized following breast removal, it uses implants or one’s
own body tissue to provide symmetry and balance.
Breast
Reduction.
Reduces and reshapes the contour of large breasts by removing excess
breast skin and underlying tissue.
Tummy
Tuck (abdominoplasty).
This surgery tightens the muscles in the abdomen and extracts excess
skin and fat...resulting in a flatter, smoother abdomen.
Liposuction.
Although not a substitute for weight reduction, liposuction removes
unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It should be
used to remove localized fat that does not respond to diet or exercise.
Chemical
Peel.
A chemical solution is used to improve and smooth the texture of facial
skin by removing damaged outer layers. It can help with blemishes, wrinkles
and uneven skin pigmentation, as well as with removing pre-cancerous
lesions. Three types of peels offer strengths from mild to strong.
Laser
Resurfacing.
Sometimes called a ‘laser peel,’ a carbon dioxide laser
is used to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin layer by layer.
It is often used to minimize fine lines, but can also be effective in
treating facial scars or uneven pigmentation.
Nasal
Contouring (rhinoplasty).
Through several
hidden incisions, bone and cartilage can be altered, resulting in a
more aesthetically pleasing nasal structure.
Ear
Setback (otoplasty).
Disproportionately
prominent ears can be set closer to the head, creating a more natural
contour.
Other
Conditions and Solutions
Unsightly
Scars.
Various procedures can be used to improve or minimize scars, restore
function and correct disfigurement that has resulted from injury or
previous surgery.
Skin
Cancer.
Like dermatologists, plastic surgeons are trained to diagnose and treat
skin malignancies. The advantage of using plastic surgeons is that they
can skillfully remove the growth so it leaves as little scarring as
possible, preserving form and function.
Spider
Veins.
Treatment consists of injecting a solution into the veins that causes
them to collapse and fade from view. The procedure may also remedy symptoms
of spider veins, including aching, burning, swelling, and night cramps.
Enlarged
Male Breasts (gynecomastia).
The condition is usually addressed by using small incisions and liposuction.
